Cape Cod Festival of Arab & Middle Eastern Cinema

Friday, May 5th, 2017 7:00 pm
Spotlight on Syria: Houses Without Doors by Avo Kaprealian
BUY TICKETS HERE This Syrian documentary portrays the changes in the life of an Armenian family on Aleppo’s frontline in Al Midan, an area that brought shelter to the persecuted Armenians 100 years ago and today to many displaced Syrians. From the balcony of his home, the director films with a small camera the changes in his neighborhood and his own family, interweaving his images with extracts from classical films to illustrate the parallels between the Armenian genocide and Syrians’ reality today. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltp0IyUpXEY&feature=youtu.be     Presented by the Cape Cod Film Society, this noncompetitive, biennial festival features films of all lengths and genres by filmmakers of Arab or Middle-Eastern descent, with the goal of stimulating cultural understanding about the countries, people, and cultures of these regions though the art of cinema. Feature-length and short films are shown along with filmmaker Q&A's as well as speakers with expertise in film studies, Arab cinema, and the subjects of the participating films. The fourth edition of this biennial festival takes place May 4 – 7, 2017, with screenings at the Chatham Orpheum Theater, Cape Cod Museum of Art, WOMR Davis Space, and Wellfleet Preservation Hall. For a full festival schedule, please visit: http://CapeCodFilmSociety.com The Festival is supported by the Massachusetts Local Cultural Councils of Chatham, Provincetown, and Wellfleet and co-sponsored by WOMR Radio.
