Local Lens Series: THE FILMS OF JEFFERSON THOMAS

Friday, October 24th, 2014 7:30 pm
BUY TICKETS HERE A native Wellfleetian, Jefferson Thomas will be sharing 3 of his short films with us including his most recent work in progress, all works of narrative fiction. Jefferson will be present to discuss the development of his vision and style, the filmmaking process and the challenges of making film as a young artist on the Outer Cape. Program: A Little Suspicion - There is something unusual about Jack and Cindy's dinner guest. Jack's suspicions lead him down a rabbit hole of murder and deception. Hard boiled noir with a comedic edge. (Some frightening images. Some foul language.) The Perilous Fortune - A thief and a spy, unaware of each other, both attempt an inside job under the shadow of a sinister diamond trading company. One is in it for quick cash, the other for justice, but will they live long enough to find either? A comedic action adventure.(Violence. Some foul language.) The Dark Alignment (pictured above)- On a cold gray winter day in the late 1800s, a corpse dangles from skeletal branches in the local cemetery. Two men happen upon it during a morning stroll, for one it will mean doom! Gothic Horror.(Frightening images.) About the Filmmaker: Jefferson has been making films on the Cape for most of his life. An active participant in local theater, he has gradually amassed a collective of creative people who support his cinematic vision. Often using the same actors and crew, he has pieced together several films on a shoestring budget. Jefferson owes much of his success to his ongoing collaboration with Thomas Romme, his cinematographer. Jefferson writes, directs, and edits all his films. He is also an aspiring actor, having appeared in productions at WHAT, The Academy Playhouse, and The Provincetown Theater. Jefferson lives in Wellfleet year-round with his girlfriend Merissa.

Sunday, October 26th, 2014 2:30 pm
$12.00
BUY TICKETS HERE Inside The Pages Series presents: Knitting Yarns: Writers On Knitting w/Ann Hood, Taylor Polites, Anne LeClaire, Marianne Leone & Elizabeth Searle Why does knitting occupy a place in the hearts of so many writers? What’s so magical and transformative about yarn and needles? How does knitting help us get through life-changing events and inspire joy? In Knitting Yarns, twenty-seven writers tell stories about how knitting healed, challenged, or helped them to grow.  Five of these wonderful authors - including Ann Hood -  will be in the house this afternoon, sharing their stories and their experience contributing to this delightful book. “The impressive collection of writers here have contributed essays that celebrate knitting and knitters. They share their knitting triumphs and disasters as well as their life triumphs and disasters. . . . These essays will break your heart. They will have you laughing out loud.”— Ann Hood, from the introduction of Knitting Yarns About the authors: Ann Hood is the author of six works of fiction, including the bestseller The Knitting Circle and, most recently, The Obituary Writer, as well as a memoir, Comfort. She is also the editor of Knitting Yarns: Writers on Knitting. The winner of two Pushcart prizes as well as Best American Food Writing, Best American Travel Writing, and Best American Spiritual Writing awards, she lives in Providence, Rhode Island. Anne D. LeClaire is a former actress, radio news reporter and op-ed columnist whose work has appeared in Redbook, the Boston Sunday Globe, Yankee and the Sunday New York Times among other publications. Fleet Movement Explorations

Sunday, October 26th, 2014 3:00 pm
Drop in dance workshop, by donation
Fleet Movement Explorations is an experimental dance class in which we explore, among other things, developmental movement patterns while sensing ourselves in space, weight, time, and the three dimensions. This is extended to explore the articulation of movement initiations and refinement of body alignments. We play with evoking movement though qualities of feeling, shape, force, idea, word and more. From this basis, we work out interactive improvisational skits. The class is basically informal, challenging, and fun, and a good movement workout. It plays spontaneously with forces, shapes, images, and ideas rather than specific dance technique. At times we will have guest teachers. All are welcome. Lead by Becky Burrill—dancer-choreographer, developmental-creative arts educator, writer, visual artist.
