Salsa, Bachata & Merengue Learn & Launch

Friday, March 24th, 2017 7:00 pm
Free & All are welcome
We are two dance enthusiasts who learned to dance in the clubs and want to help others learn the basics of these Latin partners' dances. We will have 3 session at Prez Hall on the 4th Friday of each month through April. We  would love to see as many of you as want to attend these free sessions. If you are experienced, great! If you are brand new, that's super too. We would love to get as many people feeling confident enough so that eventually we can have a regular Latin Dance night at an established club on the Cape. We will cover things like how to be in the basic hold, the basic steps, basic turns, and as the level of expertise rises, we will add more complicated patterns and turns. The emphasis is on fun and learning and the goal is to give you more confidence and skills! Free & ALL are welcome!

Fleet Movement Explorations

Sunday, March 26th, 2017 3:00 pm
Drop-in dance workshop, by donation
Fleet Movement Explorations is a structured improvisational dance class. We start with warm-ups based in internal body awareness such as developmental movement patterns or somatic exploration, often integrated with thematic material. Embodiment is evoked through sensing movement articulation, initiation, and alignment in space-weight-time, and the three dimensions. Warm-up experiences are used as creative material for structuring dance scores. Each dancer becomes an artistic director of their score, danced by the whole group.  Weather permitting we hold class outside, working with the language immediacy of the Natural World. We play spontaneously with forces, shapes, feelings, images, and ideas rather than specific dance technique. The class is basically informal, challenging, and fun, and a good movement workout. At times we will have guest teachers. All are welcome. Lead by Becky Burrill, Ed.D.—dance-improvisationist, artistic director, developmental-creative arts educator, writer, visual artist, join weekly notifications concerning class thru Becky at 508 237 0217 • rburrill@verizon.net

FREE TO THE PUBLIC & ALL ARE WELCOME A Closer Look: How Will The Herring River Restoration Affect You? This program is a four-week series designed to share information and questions, sponsored by Herring River Concerned Citizens. Who Are the Herring River Concerned Citizens? * We are a group of people from Wellfleet and Truro who are researching the potential risks and benefits of the Herring River Restoration to help our townspeople develop informed opinions about the Project. * The group includes local shopkeepers and artists as well as town residents with expertise in life science, construction, health care, and corporate management. The Proposed Herring River Restoration Project is Vast and Complex * Understanding the potential benefits and risks is difficult and time-consuming * We have reviewed hundreds of pages of official project documents, spoken with independent experts and studied the scientific literature. * We are still learning and we have more questions than answers! Bring Your Questions, Ideas and Curiosity * We will answer any questions we can and research any we can’t. * We will share what we’ve learned and we want to hear your thoughts. * We will invite representatives from the Friends of the Herring River, the Seashore, the Herring River Restoration Committee and the Selectmen to attend. Just a Few of the Questions We Will Cover * What are the risks of herbicides to wetland life and to people? * What are the arguments for and against controlling phragmites (common reed)? * What is the real-world evidence for benefits to shellfishing beds? * What are the risks of shellfish bed closure and will there be an emergency fund or insurance to protect shellfishermen? * How will construction on major town roads affect access for local residents and tourists? * How might tourism be depressed by road and dike construction and golf course closure? * Will there be an emergency fund or insurance to protect local businesses? * What is adaptive management planning and how is it expected to reduce risk? * How would restoration affect endangered species habitat? * Which entity is legally liable for the Project? * Which entity is liable for financial losses to the Town and to private individuals? Please come share you thoughts and questions on this vast and complex issue.
