Woods Hole To Wellfleet Film Series: MISS SHARON JONES!

Saturday, January 14th, 2017
7:30 pm
to 9:30 pm

Prez Hall and The Woods Hole Film Festival have teamed up to bring you 4 fantastic music documentaries this winter, screening January through April. Our series kickoff celebrates the life and unlikely journey to soul stardom of MISS SHARON JONES!, directed by Academy Award winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple (HARLAN COUNTY USA). For moviegoers traveling from afar, the newly renovated nearby Wagner Inn is offering travel packages! Visit them online HERE.

Don't miss this inspiring film about musical artist Sharon Jones, a powerhouse vocalist who finally found success - and a purpose - after years of hearing from music industry execs that she didn't fit the image of a marketable soul singer. After joining forces with musician-owned indie-soul label Daptone, she proved the industry wrong and went on to make several hit albums, touring extensively with her band the Dap-Kings. After receiving a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2013, Sharon remarkably returned to the stage and continued to deliver foot-stomping, soul crunching shows to her ever expanding fan base, up until she could no longer physically perform in late 2016. Sharon's amazing spirit, dedication to music and perseverance has served as a profoundly moving message to all.

We are deeply saddened by the news of Jones' recent passing, and all the more committed to sharing her story and music with the Cape community. Those of you who saw her perform at Payomet Performing Arts Center in Truro this summer can attest to what an incredible and inspiring artist this woman was, even to the end.

Please join us for this very special evening of great filmmaking, soul-pounding music, and the uplifting story of MISS SHARON JONES!
