Kripalu Yoga with Jen Shannon

Jen Shannon is a certified Kripalu Yoga teacher with over 20 years of experience in Yoga and meditation. In addition to Kripalu Yoga, she has studied and practiced several forms of Yoga including Iyengar, Yin, and Svaroopa Yoga.  She has 30 years of experience practicing psychotherapy and mind/body medicine. In her yoga classes she strives to integrate and share her knowledge of health and wellness. Capoeira Class - all ages

Taught by Andre Lima, this Brazilian fusion of dance and martial arts engages on many levels. Andre's techniques employ aspects of culture and music along with fitness and strength building. All ages are welcome - this is a great family activity! Developed as a form of self-defense by the slaves in Brazil during the 17th century, capoeira is an art which combines self-defense, dance, and music. Through the practice of capoeira, students increase their flexibility, coordination, strength, balance, and self-confidence. Capoeira is very different from other martial arts in that it involves not only self-defense, but movement, music, dance and much more. To learn capoeira, one must not only learn the basic movements, but understand the roots of capoeira and its philosophy. Come learn all about this fascinating and exciting practice with instructer Andre Lima of Capoeira Besouro Cape Cod. Gillian Mueller and Alissa Krieger-DeWitt share the stage as they guide you through a super fun, super effective Zumba dance class.  Zumba takes the "work" out of workout, by mixing low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval style, calorie burning dance fitness party. Zumba fitness classes are often called exercise in disguise. A total body workout, combining all elements of fitness - cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility and boosted energy. We welcome and encourage all ages and all abilities!

Fleet Movement Explorations

Fleet Movement Explorations is a structured improvisational dance class. We start with warm-ups based in internal body awareness such as developmental movement patterns or somatic exploration, often integrated with thematic material. Embodiment is evoked through sensing movement articulation, initiation, and alignment in space-weight-time, and the three dimensions. Warm-up experiences are used as creative material for structuring dance scores. Each dancer becomes an artistic director of their score, danced by the whole group.  Weather permitting we hold class outside, working with the language immediacy of the Natural World. We play spontaneously with forces, shapes, feelings, images, and ideas rather than specific dance technique. The class is basically informal, challenging, and fun, and a good movement workout. At times we will have guest teachers. All are welcome.
