The Further Adventures of the Fat Ass Cancer Bitch

Saturday, April 21st, 2012 7:30 pm
Spoken-word artist and acclaimed playwright Christine Rathbun Ernst performs her latest collection, "The Further Adventures of the Fat Ass Cancer Bitch” – the funny, unapologetic, wickedly honest, poignant, hell-bent, pissed-off, one-breasted, loudmouth story of one woman's examined life -- witty, quirky, unforgettable theater of self-discovery, good story-telling, and pointed social commentary. The hour-plus-long show is a compilation of monologues in the spirit of her earlier one-woman plays, "Reconstruction," "Giant Women," and “An Other Woman.” Ms. Rathbun Ernst is a two-time Mass Cultural Council Artist Grant finalist, has performed her work all over New England, and was recently featured in the magazine MAMM, and in the literary journal, Ars Medica. $12   BUY TICKETS HERE CLICK HERE TO SEE CHRISTINE ON STAGE CLICK HERE FOR MORE VIDEOS OF CHRISTINE

MUSICAL CELEBRATION OF ETHNIC TRADITIONS

Saturday, April 28th, 2012 7:30 pm
$15 at the door
Three wonderful Cape bands will perform music from across the world. The concerts, complete with dance floor, will feature music by Longing for Ireland (Celtic), O'Challah (Irish, Jewish, and Eastern European), and Polka Dan's Beetbox Band (Polish village music and polka standards). The concert is a multicultural musical feast with the Cape's three exceptional ethnic bands. Dancing. Lots of fun. All rooted in traditions that are very much a part of the Cape’s culture. The central figure in the celebration is Mashpee’s Greg Johnson, a multi-instrumentalist who plays in all three bands and has been in folk ensembles on Cape Cod since the mid-‘70s, including the extremely popular Raw Honey Bluegrass Band. He plays guitar, fiddle, upright and electric bass, accordion, trombone, keyboard, and any other instrument he can get his hands on. Like Greg and many other folk musicians in the area, Denya also plays in several groups, two of which will be performing at the event. Dan Blajda, the heart and soul of Polka Dan’s Beetbox Band, will also be performing.  Dan’s family in Poland has been the village band for generations and composers of wonderful dance music renowned throughout the country. Dan's band plays high energy, original, village folk music from southern Poland as well as popular polka favorites and is famous for its costumes and for being zany and delightfully wild. Dan is lead vocalist and violinist. With Clayton March on clarinet, flute, and tenor banjo; Robin Smith-Johnson on piano; David Silver on drums; and Greg Johnson on bass. Longing for Ireland's roots are in traditional, classical, multicultural, and bluegrass music, and the band's repertoire spans the 17th to 20th century. The band weaves together energetic dance tunes, ancient and contemporary songs from the Celtic countries, poetry, and jewel-like originals. The range of material reflects the widely varied emotions of Celtic music. With Dinah Mellin and Denya LeVine on fiddle and vocals and Greg Johnson on guitar. O'Challah is an Irish/Jewish/Eastern European band featuring three well-respected, longtime performers in Cape Cod's folk and world music scene. Denya LeVine on fiddle and vocals, Greg Johnson on guitar and vocals, and Clayton March on mandolin, clarinet, flute and fiddle, blend innovative arrangements with traditional styles. Begin with the joy, beauty and sensitivity of the music of Ireland. Add the untamed wildness of Balkan, Eastern European Klezmer and Israeli dance music, and move on to the emotionally rich, evocative compositions of Greg and Clayton. Rounding out the repertoire is a diverse collection of songs in English, Irish Gaelic, Hebrew, and Yiddish.

These vinyasa style classes are appropriate for all levels of experience, and are designed to facilitate students in forming a deeper connection with themselves and their surroundings. Students should be willing to practice new postures, but should also have knowledge of their own comfort levels. The goal of each class is to provide the student with a template for creating their own experience. The teacher is present as a guide for increased mind body awareness.   ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: ZOE WOLF "For me, yoga began as a physical challenge: a quest to keep my body in shape. After years as a competitive gymnast, I was craving a work out that stimulated both my strength and flexibility. Over the past seven years, my relationship with my practice has evolved immensely. I have studied with many teachers in Boston, on Cape Cod, and at Kripalu Yoga Center. I now understand how my asana practice affects every area of my life, from my relationship with myself, to my interactions with the rest of the world. For me, yoga has become a lifestyle that extends far past the edges of my mat! I have over 400 hours of Yoga Alliance approved Yoga Teacher Trainings. I completed my 200 Hour Interdisciplinary Teacher Training with Don and Amba Stapleton in Nosara, Costa Rica. I could not feel more grateful for or prepared by their amazing program, and I am ecstatic that I have the opportunity to share my experiences with others. I hope that I can inspire my students to seek their own yoga and be guided by their own inner light.  CLICK HERE for more info about Zoe Wolf Yoga.
