Spare Parts - Dance Performance

Spare Parts Dance is a professional dance company of working alumni from Southeast Missouri State University School of Visual and Performing Arts Conservancy and other dance artists from Wellfleet, Cape Cod, and the Northeast, coordinated by Marc Strauss, Professor Emeritus, Southeast Missouri State University. In their premiere 2017 season, Spare Parts Dance presents a versatile selection of dance and musical styles including contemporary, hip hop, tap, modern, jazz, Capoeira, Brazilian, classical, and pop.

Dr. Marc Strauss is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Theatre and Dance from Southeast Missouri State University (1995 – 2014), having taught all levels of ballet, jazz, and ballroom as well as dance history and appreciation, the creative process, the aesthetics of movement, and the history of the musical. Dr. Strauss has studied, performed, taught, and choreographed in a variety of dance styles at the regional, national and international levels since the early 1980s. Specialized interests include dance criticism, dance on film, aesthetics, George Balanchine, Astaire and Rogers, and Alfred Hitchcock.  His most recent books include The Dance Experience: Insights into History, Culture and Creativity (2014; Princeton Book Company), with Myron Howard Nadel, and Hitchcock’s Objects as Subjects: The Significance of Things On Screen (2016; McFarland & Company).
