PROGRAM UPDATE 8/19/21:
We have just heard from Congressman Jamie Raskin that he has been called away from his Outer Cape days to head back to Washington to close the deal on the infrastructure bill. The bad news is that means he will not be with us at our August 25 fundraising event.

We've still got plenty to talk about, and hope you'll want to stick with us!

Martha Minow will be with us, and we're still looking forward to talking with you about her new book, Saving the News and all of our dreams for a better future for America's free press. By the way, Sophie Hills reviews Martha Minow's new book in the August 19 issue of the Independent.

Martha Minow’s new book, Saving the News, examines how the decimation of local news has allowed disinformation to flourish. Yet, she has said, “the framers understood how central the press was and is to the maintenance of a constitutional democracy.” Minow has taught at Harvard Law School since 1981 and was its dean from 2009 to 2017.  She clerked for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court.

This event will be held outside in the Hall’s back garden, weather permitting.

 Jamie Raskin is professor of constitutional law who has called for a renewal of people’s support for local journalism, saying “A free and vibrant press is essential to our democracy.” Raskin teaches at American University and represents Maryland’s 8th congressional district in the U.S. house of representatives. He was the lead impeachment manager in the second senate trial of Donald Trump.
